Arsenal “should be looking” to sign their Alisson in the next transfer window, according to Kevin Campbell.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunner striker questioned whether Bernd Leno, 29, is good enough to be the club’s number one long-term.
The German goalkeeper made a costly error for West Ham’s second goal on Sunday, as Mikel Arteta’s side battled back from 3-0 down to draw 3-3 at the London Stadium.
It is the second high profile mistake he has made in the Premier League this month, following a poor kick at Burnley which gifted Chris Wood a goal.
Football Insider understands coaches at the Emirates fear a mistake was made when Emiliano Martinez was sold to Aston Villa last summer.
When asked for his verdict on the number one position at Arsenal, Campbell told Football Insider:
“I was looking at Leno against West Ham and thinking to myself, ‘Are you good enough?’
“You cannot keep making mistakes like this as an Arsenal goalkeeper. If he keeps making these mistake then the club need a new goalkeeper.
“Arsenal should be looking for a top-class goalkeeper. Even now they should be looking for a world-class goalkeeper.
“When Liverpool have won trophies over the past two seasons Alisson has been outstanding. It makes a big difference.”
Liverpool signed Alisson for £66.8million in the summer of 2018.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have won the Champions League and Premier League since his arrival.
