Arsenal transfer news: Five strikers who could join this summer

Arsenal have certainly built a talented squad under Mikel Arteta, but it is clear the Gunners still need to strengthen this summer.

The North London club are fighting it out with Man City and Liverpool for the Premier League title, but have now fallen at the quarter-final stages of the Champions League.

The exit from Europe’s premier club competition could force Arteta into already considering his summer plans.

One area that could be strengthened is the striker position, with attacker Kai Havertz currently regularly occupying that role.

Arsenal do have Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah as other options, but the Brazilian may be moved on at the end of the season given his injury struggles.

Nketiah meanwhile could also leave amid interest from Wolves, Crystal Palace and Brentford, sources told Football Insider last month.

Using the latest information from our sources, Football Insider analyses five strikers that Arsenal could target this summer.

Ivan Toney (Brentford)

Man United

Brentford and England star Toney only recently returned to the pitch following a lengthy ban, but it didn’t take him long at all to find his feet.

The 28-year-old has, however, been overlooked by Thomas Frank lately ahead of the summer window, with sources telling Football Insider in February that Arsenal are in pole position to land his signature.

Alexander Isak (Newcastle United)

Newcastle striker Alexander Isak

Newcastle ace Isak is enjoying a stunning season under Eddie Howe, with the Sweden international on 21 goals in all competitions so far.

Sources told Football Insider last month that the 24-year-old is on the Arsenal shortlist this summer, with the Magpies vulnerable to losing their star man.

The latest is that Newcastle regard Isak as their absolute prize asset and will pull out all the stops to keep him, even in the face of what they expect to be “huge interest”.

Dominic Solanke (Bournemouth)

Tottenham

Bournemouth hitman Solanke has found a new lease of life at the Cherries, with the striker once in real danger of throwing away his promising career at Liverpool.

The 26-year-old is now among the most lethal strikers in the Premier League with 19 goals this season, with Football Insider revealing on Monday (15 April) that Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham all have a “concrete” interest in the player.

Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)

Aston Villa

Watkins is another Premier League ace who has been dominating the headlines this season for his goals, with the striker bagging his 26th goal in all competitions against Arsenal on Sunday (14 April).

Arteta clearly got a good look at the England international at the Emirates during the 2-0 defeat, with the manager potentially reigniting his previous interest in the 28-year-old this summer.

Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting CP)

Fulham Arsenal Man United Newcastle

But the Gunners boss may look further afield for a new frontman, with Football Insider revealing last month that Sporting CP striker Gyokeres is attracting interest from the North London outfit and Chelsea.

A well-placed source told Football Insider that the 25-year-old – who has banged in 36 goals this season – is seen as an ideal fit by chiefs at the Emirates.
