Arsenal transfer news: Mikel Arteta deal will get done soon – sources

Mikel Arteta is expected to sign a new contract at Arsenal before the start of next season, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on 28 May the Gunners are in advanced talks with the Spanish boss over a new long-term deal to keep him at the Emirates.

Sources say all parties are happy with the way negotiations are progressing as the 42-year-old looks to commit his future to the club before his current deal expires in June 2025.

Arsenal chiefs are fully focused on keeping hold of Arteta and continuing to build over the coming years after recording back-to-back second-place finishes in the Premier League.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider money will be made available once the transfer window reopens, but the Gunners manager will not have unlimited funds at his disposal after heavy spending last year.

Mikel Arteta could agree new Arsenal contract before next season

Arteta has put Arsenal back in a position to fight for major titles since returning to the Emirates in 2019.

The Gunners spent much of the latest campaign sitting top of the Premier League, but their title bid faltered in the final weeks of the campaign as Manchester City secured the trophy for a fourth year in a row.

The Spaniard holds a 59.1 per cent win rate as a manager, prompting top European clubs to assess whether he would be interested in joining them over the past couple of years.

Arteta’s top priority is to bring a new forward to north London this summer, with Football Insider revealing on 23 May the club are plotting a move to sign RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko.

There is a chance Gabriel Jesus could leave the Gunners to help finance such a deal after Football Insider revealed earlier this month they are ready to listen to offers for the Brazil international to raise funds for a “big-money signing”.
