Arsenal transfer news: ‘Very expensive’ Zinchenko update amid Chelsea situation

Arsenal defender Oleksandr Zinchenko’s potential move to Borussia Dortmund could prove “very expensive” for the German giants, according to Florian Plettenberg.

In a post on X (21 January), the Sky Sports Germany journalist reported that Dortmund are particularly interested in securing a deal for Renato Veiga.

However, with negotiations for the Chelsea defender still “far apart”, Zinchenko remains a viable option for the German club, despite preferring Veiga, but he will be a costly recruit from the Emirates.

Football Insider previously revealed that the Ukrainian international is considered surplus to requirements at Arsenal, with the club open to letting him depart during the January transfer window.

Arsenal could offload Oleksandr Zinchenko if Renato Veiga move fails

The Gunners could be forced to sell players if they are to fund a big-money signing, with Zinchenko on that list.

The Ukrainian has fallen down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta, with Riccardo Calafiori and Myles Lewis-Skelly now preferred in his position.

Football Insider revealed back in November that Zinchenko was one of three first-team players Arsenal were looking to offload in order to raise funds.

The versatile defender has only made 12 appearances this season, starting just twice, indicating his limited role in Arteta’s plans.

The news that Dortmund may favour a deal for Veiga instead of pursuing Zinchenko isn’t ideal for the club.

Arteta’s side are still in need of attacking reinforcements and could face difficulties securing a forward without significant funds.

They have been linked with high-profile names like Alexander Isak and Victor Osimhen, both of whom would command substantial transfer fees.

Should a deal for Zinchenko fail to materialise, the club’s need for a new forward remains pressing, especially with key players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus sidelined with injuries.

Fans are adamant that further reinforcements are necessary for a successful second half of the season.

In other news, Arsenal are among a number of clubs ready to make a move to sign this Premier League star.
