Arsenal in turmoil as 28-year-old snubs mega-money deal - report

By Danny Wright

Mesut Ozil looks ready to quit Arsenal in the summer after staying silent on a new deal, according to a report.

The Telegraph reports that Ozil, along with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, want to join the Arsenal exodus and follow Alexis Sanchez out of the club after a series of humiliating defeats.

Ozil is understood to have not responded to a contract offer worth over £200,000-a-week and that friends of the German international have claimed that he wants to leave the Emirates.

The 28-year-old has barely featured for Arsenal in recent weeks with various injury and illness problems, but fans have been fierce with their criticism towards the playmaker who has been accused of going missing in matches against some of the tougher opposition.

The 2014 World Cup winner only has five goals and five assists in the league to his name this season and the last time he found the back of the net was at the start of November when he scored a Champions League goal against minnows Ludogorets.

Calls for Arsene Wenger to end his 21-year stay in north London grew louder after their astonishing 10-2 aggregate loss to Bayern Munich in the Round of 16 of the Champions League and the French boss may now have to sell Ozil and Sanchez to solidify his future at the club.

Football Insider Verdict

Arsenal are a club in absolute turmoil and there seems to be no leadership at the club whatsoever. Wenger has remained defiant in the face of adversity but his steel-like face in front of the media is not reflecting behind the scenes as the playing squad is turning into a class of school children who have just realised their teacher is no longer watching them.

Sanchez and Ozil are irreplaceable for Arsenal and with the threat of no Champions League football next season, there is no way they will be able to bring in players of equal calibre. Oxlade-Chamberlain is a great English player, which the Gunners don’t have enough of, so he is another name they need to keep on their books.
