‘Arsenal given Viktor Gyokeres green light as Sporting eye replacement’

Arsenal are finally set to get their hands on Viktor Gyokeres, having endured a long-term pursuit of the striker.

The Gunners must sign an out-and-out forward to beat defending champions Liverpool to next season’s Premier League title.

Gyokeres has shown that he is the right man for the job by scoring 54 goals in 52 appearances for Portuguese giants Sporting last season.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have faced fears of missing out on Gyokeres amid their tricky negotiations with Sporting.

Sporting close in on Gyokeres replacement amid Arsenal advances

While Arsenal are still working on their Gyokeres deal, the 27-year-old’s current club are tasked with finding a worthy replacement.

Fabrizio Romano revealed via X on Sunday, 20 July: “Understand talks between Sporting and Almeria for Luis Suarez have accelerated in the recent hours!

“Agreement close for the striker to join Sporting, with final details to be sorted this week. Almost there.”

While the reigning champions of Portugal have proven tough in their negotiations with Gyokeres, their significant moves for Suarez show that they are resigned to parting company with the former Coventry City man.

Almeria star Suarez can be strong Gyokeres replacement for Sporting

Gyokeres’ Sporting performances show that he can be the man to help Arsenal finally get their hands on the Premier League trophy after enduring three consecutive second-place finishes.

The former Brighton man could have a similar impact for the North Londoners to that of fellow striker Erling Haaland at Manchester City.

Furthermore, Gyokeres previously excelled in the English game for Championship side Coventry, before joining Sporting in 2023.

But losing a player of the Sweden international’s increasingly impressive calibre presents a major blow for Rui Borges’ men, as they look to win their third consecutive league title.

However, Suarez could be up for the task of effectively replacing the 27-year-old, as he notched an impressive return of 31 goals and eight assists in 43 appearances for Spanish second-tier side Almeria last term.

He was particularly prolific in the Copa Del Rey, scoring four goals in two outings, including a hat-trick against La Liga side Sevilla last January.
