‘Arsenal set for eternal regret over Viktor Gyokeres developments’

Arsenal are yet to sign a new striker this summer despite their ongoing advances for Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres.

The Gunners have finished second in the Premier League for three consecutive seasons, while signing a prolific striker could be the final piece in their jigsaw as they look to win their first top-flight title since 2004.

But Arsenal’s move for Gyokeres has stalled over minor details that need ironing out as they continue negotiating with Sporting.

Acquiring a striker is now Mikel Arteta’s priority, after he bolstered his midfield ranks with the additions of Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard.

Arsenal told they will regret it ‘forever’ if they miss out on Gyokeres

The North London side have lost the Premier League title race to both Manchester City and Liverpool in recent seasons.

Both Arne Slot’s defending champions and Pep Guardiola’s men benefit from the services of prolific attackers Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland, respectively.

Discussing Arsenal’s negotiations for Gyokeres via X on Sunday, 20 July, Richard Keys said: “If Arsenal don’t get this Gyokeres deal done, they’ll regret it forever. He’s top class.

“He’d be the difference between finishing 2nd again, or winning it. Isn’t that worth an extra £10million? What are they doing?”

Arteta must sign Gyokeres

Since becoming Arsenal’s manager in 2019, Arteta has helped the North Londoners make significant progress, as they reached last season’s Champions League semi-finals.

Gyokeres would revolutionise Arsenal

However, the Spaniard will be largely judged by the fact that he has not steered his side to silverware since their FA Cup triumph in 2020.

But as outlined by Keys, signing Gyokeres would be enough to change the Gunners’ fortunes in the Premier League title race, and ensure that they are capable of beating Liverpool and Man City to the prize.

The striker notched a sensational return of 54 goals and 12 assists in 52 appearances for Sporting last season, and should have no problems adjusting to the demands of the English top flight.

The 27-year-old proved his ability to perform against elite opponents when he scored six goals in eight Champions League appearances last term.

Furthermore, Gyokeres already knows the English game well, thanks to his Coventry City spell.
