‘Arsenal well placed to exploit Aston Villa over Morgan Rogers – what a signing’

Arsenal are expected to be active in the summer transfer window and Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers has now emerged as a reported target.

Football Insider understands the Gunners have added Rogers, 22, to their target list with Mikel Arteta prioritising attacking reinforcements.

The interest comes amid a backdrop of financial pressure at Aston Villa – who failed to qualify for the Champions League after finishing only sixth this season.

Rogers has become one of the Premier League’s most exciting attackers since arriving at the Midlands giants from Middlesbrough in January 2024.

Aston Villa’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has admitted he expects his old side to sell Rogers, and potentially Youri Tielemans, this summer.

‘Arteta could improve Rogers immensely’, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted there is no better manager for Rogers to play for than Arsenal’s Arteta.

The England international hit 14 goals and notched 15 assists in 54 appearances across all competitions for Villa in the 2024-25 campaign.

Wyness expects Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) to dictate Villa’s transfer position on Rogers’ future.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I’ve been talking about Rogers for a long time.

“Him and Tielemans are the ones I think Villa are going to have to sell. Those are the sort of valuations they will have to realise to get PSR compliant.

“That will hurt Villa.

“Rogers would be a fantastic signing for Arsenal. He’d be a great player to work under Arteta, who understands that position more than anyone.

“He could really help Rogers improve immensely.

“I don’t want to see players like him leaving Villa, but I do think it’s the PSR issues that may dictate it.

“Arsenal would be a great home for Rogers.”

Arsenal also monitoring Leao’s situation

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (30 May) that Arsenal are also monitoring Rafael Leao’s situation at AC Milan but his price tag is likely to be the main obstacle to a deal.

The Gunners will only swoop for the 25-year-old, who is also being monitored at Chelsea, if the price is right this summer.

Arteta‘s side do have a window of opportunity to land Portugal international Leao with Milan failing to qualify for any type of European competition in the 2025-26 campaign.
