Daniel Ek’s proposed Arsenal takeover is the best thing for the club and could immediately improve results.
That’s according to former West Ham and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Arsenal’s future.
Swedish billionaire Ek has detailed his intention to buy Arsenal and has the backing of club icons Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira.
Sky Sports claim that Ek, 38, is preparing to submit an offer in the region of £1.8billion in the near future.
However, a statement signed by Stan Kroenke and his son Josh, released last week said, “We have not received any offer and we will not entertain any offer [for Arsenal].” [BBC]
McAvennie insists a takeover is the best thing for Arsenal and claims having three legends at the club will immediately improve results.
“I think the takeover might be the best thing,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“If Kroenke will even let them through the door. For the fans, there are three legends of the game who are part of it.
“Bergkamp, Henry and Vieria, you can’t get bigger names than that. It would be a real boost ahead of next year, a new lease of life.
“Imagine being at Arsenal with Theirry Henry walking about the place, imagine seeing that, that would make you play better straight away.
“I hope for the fans’ sake it goes through. It sounds perfect.”
Arsenal face a fight to finish in the top half of the Premier League after a difficult season.
They boosted their hopes with a straightforward 2-0 win over Newcastle United last weekend.
