Arsene Wenger is sweating on the fitness of Kieran Gibbs and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain ahead of Saturday’s clash against West Brom.
Wenger revealed that Oxlade-Chamberlain will undergo a fitness test on Thursday while Gibbs remains “uncertain” after a knock against non-League side Lincoln City.
The 67-year-old ruled out Santi Cazorla once again, who is looking to overcome an ankle injury, but did have good news regarding Mohamed Elneny who is set to return against the Baggies.
Frenchman Wenger did remain optimistic however over both Gibbs and Oxlade-Chamberlain, as he spoke to media ahead of this weekend’s clash at the Hawthorns.
“Gibbs is uncertain at the moment,” Wenger said, as quoted by Arsenal’s official website.
“Oxlade-Chamberlain has a test today, but overall it’s the squad that was available [for Lincoln]. Elneny has joined in again. Apart from Cazorla, we should have everybody available.”
The Gunners face a tough test in travelling to the Midlands to face Tony Pulis’ side, as they continue to prove a difficult outfit to face at home.
Winning eight of their 14 home league matches, the Baggies would sit in a comfortable eighth and just three points off fifth if the table was decided on home form.
Arsenal’s recent form will not help their cause, after Wenger has watched his side win just three times in their last eight outings with two of those wins coming against Sutton and Lincoln.
However, the north London giants will draw confidence after beating the Baggies four times in their last five outings both home and away.
Arsenal could close the gap on the top four to just two points with a win, as they have two games in hand over fourth place Liverpool who sit five points ahead.
In other Arsenal news, Wenger has identified West Brom’s main threat.
