Arsenal’s record signing, Alexandre Lacazette, has enjoyed an inconsistent start to his Gunners career, yet his manager Wenger claims it is inevitable he is experiencing confidence issues.
The French international has bagged eight goals this term, however has failed to find the net in his any of his last nine appearances – leading to some labelling the striker as a flop.
In a press conference quoted by The Mirror, Wenger stated that his goal drought is a direct influence of his appeared lack of confidence in front of goal.
“That’s inevitable. That’s what happens when you don’t score.”
However, in games of late, the £52million striker has been without Arsenal’s premium creative presences, as Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil have not been playing.
Yet Lacazette is still Arsenal’s leading Premier League goalscorer during the 2017/18 season, topping want-away forward Sanchez who has seven.
This represents a failure from Arsenal to deliver the quality in depth amongst the squad to help the forwards, as the two most creative players are both out of a contract within six months.
The Frenchman’s next chance to find a goal wont be easy, as Arsenal take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League – and Roy Hodgson has made the Eagles hard to beat.
A goal could be all that is needed for the 26-year-old to rediscover his confidence.
