Aston Villa and Bournemouth plotting moves to sign Trai Hume – sources

Aston Villa and Bournemouth are keeping close tabs on Sunderland defender Trai Hume, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League duo are monitoring the Northern Ireland international’s situation at the Stadium of Light after he impressed scouts last season.

Both top-flight sides are plotting potential moves to sign the 22-year-old later in the summer as they look to add to their defensive options.

Hume made the most tackles in the Championship last season after successfully winning the ball back for his team on 97 occasions – 17 more times than Ipswich Town captain Sam Morsy.

The right-back, who can also play at centre-back, is under contract until 2027 after only signing a new deal last June.

Aston Villa could move to sign Trai Hume after impressing scouts

Hume has featured heavily for Sunderland since joining them for £150,000 from Northern Irish side Linfield in January 2022.

The defender played in every single Championship game last season, starting in all but one of those matches as his side finished the campaign in 16th place.

Hume averaged a Championship-high 3.3 tackles as well as 1.8 clearances and 1.4 interceptions per game in his 46 appearances, while he picked up 12 yellow cards and one red card.

Reports previously suggested Sunderland are looking for a fee in the region of £8million for the Northern Irishman’s services this summer.

Villa and Bournemouth are plotting potential moves to sign Hume as they ponder offering him the opportunity to prove himself in the Premier League.

Aston Villa

Villa will be playing in the Champions League next season following their fourth-place finish, while Bournemouth ended the campaign in 12th spot.

But Unai Emery’s first priority is getting players off the books after Football Insider revealed on 7 June the West Midlands giants must raise £60million in player sales this summer.
