Kieran Maguire: Aston Villa will bank £24m-plus windfall as new deal announced

Aston Villa can expect to bank more than £24million in commercial income by the time they publish their next set of accounts.

So says finance expert Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Villa announced their latest partnership on 26 August.

The Midlands side have teamed up with online investment platform eToro, who will advertise at Villa Park and across the club’s digital platforms.

As per their most recent set of accounts, Villa made £24million from commercial and sponsorship income for the 2019-20 season.

And Maguire expects that figure to soar as Dean Smith’s side further establishes themselves in the Premier League.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “Villa’s £24m represents what you’d expect for a club in its first year in the Premier League.

“But if you take the other 14 clubs, you’ve got Everton at £76m, which is more than twice then next best, West Ham.

“But Everton are buoyed by the close relationship they have with Alisher Usmanov and his partner companies.

“So you have West Ham £34m, Leicester £29m, Brighton £29m, Newcastle £29m, Wolves £24m.

“You would expect Villa’s figure of £24m to advance when they publish their accounts in a non-Covid year.

“They have got owners who have invested significantly and they have established themselves as a very attractive proposition, especially last season.

“So I would anticipate that figure growing. With no disrespect to clubs such as Brighton, you’d expect Villa to be above them.

“If we go back to 2016 when they were last in the Premier League, their commercial revenue was over £30m for three seasons.

“They are in a growth phase in terms of leveraging on commercial and sponsorship opportunities.”
