Aston Villa owner Tony Xia has revealed the club are working on signing five new players this month.

Steve Bruce’s side are currently 10th in the Championship, and are expected to make several new additions this month to reaffirm their promotion bid.

With the transfer window is now open, many Aston Villa fans are eagerly anticipating the prospect of some new signings in the coming weeks.

One fan on Twitter took it upon himself to ask the Villa owner when he would be announcing the club’s first signing, to which Xia issued a promising response.

He revealed that the club had already agreed one loan signing, and were in negotiations to make a further loan signing and two to three permanent transfers.

The exact details of the potential transfers remain unknown, but there have been a number of players publicly linked with Aston Villa in recent weeks.

Steve Bruce will be looking at adding a striker to his squad, as he is set to lose top scorer Jonathan Kodjia and Jordan Ayew to the African Cup of Nations; while according to the Mail, Rudy Gestede is nearing a move to Middlesbrough.

As for the potential newcomers, the Telegraph have reported Villa are looking at signing Jordan Rhodes. Last month, the Birmingham Mail claimed Villa were looking into a loan move for Arsenal outcast Carl Jenkinson, while the same source claims that they are also closing in on Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

Aston Villa could well finalise one of these deals in the next few days, and fans will wait with anticipation as to whom it might be.

In the latest Aston Villa news, fans have reacted in mixed fashion to news of Rudy Gestede’s pending departure.
