‘Aston Villa contacts’ say Douglas Luiz offer could be accepted – Keith Wyness

Aston Villa’s former chief Keith Wyness has revealed contacts at his old club feel Douglas Luiz is set to leave this summer.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the 26-year-old wants to leave the Midlands giants in the off-season.

Luiz caught the eye with his performances in the 2023-24 campaign, notching 10 goals and 10 assists across 53 games in all competitions as Aston Villa finished fourth in the Premier League.

The Brazil international, who will play at Copa America in the United States this summer, is only under contract at Villa Park until June 2026.

He has been at Aston Villa since joining from Man City in July 2019.

Luiz ‘wants to go’ this summer with Aston Villa poised to accept offer, says Wyness

Both City and Arsenal are long-term admirers of the midfielder and could be among the sides to swoop for his services this summer.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “My Villa contacts have said that Luiz could well go this summer.

“I think that would be a shame. He’s done really well and he’s gone from strength to strength.

“He’s a crucial part of any Champions League-quality squad that Villa could currently put out.

“But there is a feeling that he may have to go.

“A lot will depend on how they get rid of some of the younger players. I’ve mentioned Jacob Ramsey, and he’s a key piece.

“If he goes for the right price, they can then focus on keeping Luiz.

“But Luiz is someone who wants to go and may have to go in this summer window.”
