‘Aston Villa could accept big offer for Jacob Ramsey after source’s reveal’

Aston Villa could accept offers for Jacob Ramsey ahead of the summer transfer window, according to their former senior scout.

Mick Brown, who also worked as the chief scout at Man United and Blackburn and remains very well-connected at his former clubs, exclusively told Football Insider that Unai Emery is unsure about where the 23-year-old features in his plans.

Meanwhile, concerns about their financial situation mean they could be forced to cash in on players before they can spend big.

This comes after Football Insider revealed Aston Villa could sell key players this summer as part of a major overhaul of the first-team squad.

It is believed Ramsey could be tempted to leave Villa Park if he is offered first-team football ahead of next season, as he wants to play regularly at this stage of his career.

Tottenham are believed to be long-term admirers of the midfielder after Football Insider revealed in July 2024 that Tottenham are very interested in signing Ramsey.

Jacob Ramsey to leave Aston Villa amid financial breach

Football finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider 6 April Villa have breached UEFA’s financial rules following their heavy spending.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted that Ramsey could be sold in an attempt to raise money which would be spent elsewhere.

Jacob Ramsey is one I hear could leave Villa,” he told Football Insider.

“It’s a bit like the Kobbie Mainoo situation at Man United where he would be sold issues to help them raise money because of their financial issues.

“That money could then be spent on new players who would improve their side.

“I don’t think the manager knows where Ramsey fits in with his plans.

“He’s played in midfield and out wide without really managing to establish himself anywhere.

“There are players ahead of him in both positions, so if a big offer comes in I think they’ll sell.

“From his point of view as well, he’ll want to be playing regular first-team football at this stage of his career and I don’t think he’ll get that at Villa.

“So it could be a deal that works for all parties, providing the fee is right, and I’m sure there won’t be a shortage of interest because he’s a talented player.”

Ollie Watkins update emerges as Arsenal eye swoop

Ramsey is not the only player being linked with a move away from Villa Park this summer, as Ollie Watkins could also suffer from their sweeping changes.

Brown told Football Insider on 6 May that Arsenal want to sign Watkins after missing out during the January transfer window.

Mikel Arteta wants to add an out-and-out striker to his squad, while the Villa man has grown disillusioned amid uncertainty surrounding his place at Villa Park.

Football Insider revealed Villa could accept £50-60million offers for Watkins this summer, which would allow them to activate Marcus Rashford’s buy clause.
