Aston Villa could accept Jacob Ramsey offer with deal close – sources
Aston Villa academy graduate Jacob Ramsey is most likely to be the club’s biggest summer sale, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (21 May) that the expected signing of Ross Barkley could trigger a high-profile midfield sale with a deal for the Luton man now close.
Aston Villa fear a potential Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) breach for the 2023-24 campaign and could be forced to sell one or more first-team stars this summer to avoid a potential sanction.
Ramsey is a prime candidate to be “sacrificed”, sources say, as he is home-grown and would therefore bring in pure profit to the club’s accounts.
The Midlands giants ideally would like to keep him at the club but will reluctantly let him go if they need to reduce their PSR loss.
Jacob’s brother, Aaron, was sold in a similar move last year (2023) alongside Cameron Archer and Jaden Philogene.
Ramsey could now be ‘sacrificed’ by Aston Villa as Barkley comes in
Ramsey made just 21 appearances in total in the 2023-24 campaign, notching one goal and two assists.
Just 10 of those outings came as part of Unai Emery’s starting lineup in a season which was blighted by injury.
The attacking midfielder, who can also play on the left side of midfield, is under contract at Villa Park until June 2027.

He made his debut in 2019 and has already racked up 122 games for his boyhood club.
Ramsey has scored four goals in 16 England Under-21 caps but is yet to be called up to the senior side.
