Aston Villa could be forced to accept Morgan Rogers offer as new PSR verdict emerges

Aston Villa could be forced to accept offers for Morgan Rogers if they are unable to resolve their ongoing concerns about profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

Aston Villa sold their women’s team during the summer in a bit to comply with financial regulations rather than being forced to sell the likes of Rogers and Ollie Watkins.

However, there remains a possibility they could fall foul of the rules yet again in 2026 and may be unable to hang on to their big-name stars.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Villa prevented Rogers’ sale in the summer and will do so again in January, but that could change next year.

Sources say the England star is among Unai Emery‘s most high-value assets and the level of interest in his signature could mean Villa decide to cash in next year.

Aston Villa could be made to accept Morgan Rogers offers

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 25 August that Tottenham held preliminary discussions about signing Rogers, while Chelsea also held a strong interest.

A number of clubs are believed to be keeping an eye on the attacking midfielder’s situation in what will be an interesting deal to keep an eye on next summer.

The England international’s long-term future could be decided by Villa’s financial situation despite the move having been blocked due to his importance to the team.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “It’s not just Tottenham, I think there will be a lot of clubs looking at Morgan Rogers.

“He’s a top player and showed that for Villa last season, and he’s played well for England is is going to be looking to push to be in the World Cup squad.

“Aston Villa did everything they could to make sure he didn’t have to be sold in the summer as part of the PSR and FFP issues they were struggling with.

“The price tag and everything else ensured there was no deal to be done in the summer, and nothing will happen in January.

“But it will be interesting to watch next summer, it could depend on where Villa are at with regard to PSR and what type of season they have.

“If those concerns are still there for Villa, then we could see them potentially forced to sell players and Rogers, of course, could be one of those because of the interest in him.”

Tottenham among clubs interested in signing Rogers

Former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 11 September that Tottenham are interested in signing Rogers next summer after missing out this year.

Villa have endured a difficult start to the season and are without a win or a goal in three games, raising questions about their decline since last term.

As a result, there have been suggestions that the midfielder could be tempted to move on, with Spurs keeping a close eye on his situation.

Football Insider revealed on 31 August that Aston Villa will fight to keep Rogers at the club and only a “huge” offer would get a deal over the line.

However, clubs including Tottenham are set to keep a close eye on his situation and could take advantage if Villa find themselves in a difficult situation.
