Aston Villa could get £10m extra after new reveal – Stefan Borson
Aston Villa could be £10million up on the amount they originally forecasted to generate in Champions League prize money this season.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the West Midlands giants could now be forecasting for 12 games following their performances in the revamped league phase of the competition.
Villa booked their place in European football’s premier club competition after securing a fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season.
Unai Emery’s side currently sit ninth in the Champions League table after winning three of their opening five matches.
Football Insider revealed on 3 October Villa could earn almost £50million if they manage to make it through to the knockout rounds this season.
Aston Villa have more Champions League points than expected
Borson believes the club have more points than they would have expected at this point.
He told Football Insider: “Clearly, Aston Villa are doing pretty well in the Champions League.
“I think they are probably above their internal forecast on Champions League revenue.
“They will have forecast at the start of the season what they might have generated from this Champions League campaign.
“But I suspect that they have got more points than they maybe expected and then, on top of that, their chances of qualifying for the next phase are quite a lot higher than they would have imagined.
“On their base-case forecast, they may actually have just said we will get eight games plus a play-off for 10 games.
“But maybe now they are forecasting 12 games with the round of 16.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if they are £10million up on their forecast for Champions League revenue.
“But that can quickly disappear if they finish three places lower than they expected in the Premier League.”
