Aston Villa could price John McGinn out of Tottenham move with ‘through the roof’ demands – ex-manager

Alex McLeish has suggested Aston Villa could price Tottenham out of a move for John McGinn during the summer transfer window.

The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Villans’ demands for the 27-year-old would be “through the roof”.

The Telegraph (18 May) claim McGinn is among Antonio Conte’s midfield targets as the Italian looks to strengthen his squad with six new signings.

The Lilywhites will reportedly hold further talks over a possible deal ahead of the summer.

McGinn’s contract at Villa runs until the summer of 2025, having signed an extension in 2020.

McLeish insisted the Midlands giants are in an excellent position to demand a mega-money fee for the midfielder.

He suggested Spurs might not be able to meet the Villans’ asking price.

Discussing how much Villa could demand for McGinn’s signing, McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “That’s going to be through the roof.

“Maybe Spurs won’t be able to afford him.

“He’s definitely going to be up in the high numbers.”

McGinn has been a standout star for Villa since joining from Hibernian in 2018.

He played 136 times for the Scottish outfit, while he also made 98 appearances for St Mirren before heading south of the border.

The 44-cap international has played 146 games for Villa to date.

He has 16 goals and 23 assists under his belt.

Conte signed Rodrigo Bentancur to bolster his midfield during the January transfer window.

He also has Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Harry Winks and Oliver Skipp to call upon in the middle of the park.
