Aston Villa could re-sign Cameron Archer at £4m discount – sources
Cameron Archer is in line to return to Aston Villa on a cheaper deal than the fee Sheffield United paid to sign him, sources have told Football Insider.
Villa included a buy-back clause in Archer’s deal after selling him to the Blades for £18million last summer.
That clause could be activated now Sheffield United’s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed following their 5-1 defeat against Newcastle United.
Intriguingly, the clause, if it is triggered, states 22-year-old would make the permanent move back to the West Midlands for £14million.
Football Insider revealed last month the buy-back clause had been included in the deal and there is limited interest from other clubs to prevent the forward from returning to Villa Park.
Cameron Archer set to return to Aston Villa
There was some surprise among the Villa fans last summer when the club sanctioned an exit for Archer to Sheffield United.
The forward joined fellow academy products Jaden Philogene and Aaron Ramsey in being moved on to help balance the books.
Archer has been one of the brighter lights in a struggling United team this season.

The former England youth international has scored four goals in 27 Premier League appearances this season, one of which came in his side’s 1-1 draw at Villa Park in December.
It’s so far unknown what Unai Emery’s plans will be for Archer once he returns to the club this summer, but the forward will be hoping to get a solid pre-season under his belt to force his way back into the reckoning at Villa Park.
