Aston Villa could seal ‘bargain’ Bentancur signing after bid update – pundit

Aston Villa could seal “a bargain” by signing Juventus star Rodrigo Bentancur this month, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 24-year-old “is a great player” who is vastly experienced for his age.

Villa want to sign a centre-midfielder before Monday’s transfer deadline after losing Marvelous Nakamba to a serious knee injury last month.

A Villa source told Football Insider (25 January) that the club have submitted an offer in the region of £18million for Bentancur.

It is believed that the Uruguay international is keen on joining Steven Gerrard’s side.

His contract in Turin runs until the summer of 2024.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of the bid, Campbell said: “That is a potential bargain.

“Yves Bissouma has been mentioned but there is quite a few clubs looking at him. I cannot see him leaving Brighton until the end of the season. I think that’s a deal for the summer, in all honesty. Brighton are going well right now and he is a key member of their squad.

“Bentancur is a great player. He is very experienced for someone of his age.

“It is cheap money at the moment. Hopefully Villa can get that done.”

Bentancur has made 26 appearances across all competitions for Juve this season, with five of those coming in the Champions League.

He has played 45 times for Uruguay.
