Aston Villa expecting struggle to keep Morgan Rogers as summer ‘sacrifice’ looms

Aston Villa could be fighting a losing battle in their attempts to keep Morgan Rogers beyond the end of the season, sources have told Football Insider.

The 23-year-old has attracted interest from a number of the Premier League’s and Europe’s top sides, and sources say Villa feel they may struggle to keep him long-term.

So far this season, he has made 43 appearances across all competitions, scored ten goals and provided seven assists, earning a place in the most recent England squad.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Unai Emery hopes to keep hold of his star man, but doubts are creeping in.

Aston Villa could face another frustrating transfer window this summer as their financial issues are expected to linger, meaning they could be forced to sell players.

Aston Villa at risk of losing Morgan Rogers

Football Insider revealed last month that Aston Villa hope to keep Rogers and believe they can do so if clubs are unwilling to match their lofty asking price.

Should the attacking midfielder go to the World Cup with England as expected, it will only enhance his reputation and make it harder to keep hold of him.

Aston Villa are realistic with their transfer plans and believe it may prove difficult to hang on to Rogers, but Emery hopes to keep hold of his star man.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Look, it’s going to be difficult for Villa long term to keep hold of somebody like Morgan Rogers.

“He’s such a quality player, he’s going to attract interest from top clubs.

“Most of the Premier League’s top sides will be interested in Morgan Rodgers if there was any possibility that he could be lured away from Aston Villa.

“We know that Villa have had issues over the last couple of seasons and they might have to sacrifice a couple of players.

“Some of the big clubs in the Premier League and across Europe will be ready to test Villa’s resolve in the summer to see if Rogers could be prised away.

“But as I said Unai Emery is planning on keeping Morgan Rodgers and as I said Villa would demand a huge fee and don’t have any plans to lose him.”

Which other star players could leave Aston Villa?

Rogers is not the only big name being linked with a move away from Villa Park this summer as they remain at risk of losing a number of important players.

This comes as Youri Tielemans has emerged as a target for clubs in the Saudi Pro League, who have been long-term admirers of the Belgium international.

However, Football Insider revealed on 19 March that Tielemans is ready to reject their advances in favour of remaining at Villa Park this summer.

The midfielder is on the radar of several Saudi Pro League clubs at the moment, but is not prepared to leave Villa despite the finances on offer.

Sources say that the 28-year-old feels that he still has plenty to offer in the Premier League, and is committed to helping the Villans continue their progress.
