Aston Villa fans all say the same about Douglas Luiz ‘homecoming’ after major transfer update
Aston Villa supporters have made their feelings known as Unai Emery gears up to welcome Douglas Luiz back to the squad at Villa Park.
The 27-year-old last featured for the Villans in the 2023-24 campaign, when he notched 10 goals and 10 assists in all competitions, but was sold to Juventus due to PSR restrictions.
Since then, he has played just 27 times for the Old Lady, with Luiz struggling on loan at Nottingham Forest, grabbing just 318 minutes in the top tier of English football this season.
While those at the City Ground have been wary of the Brazilian, Emery might have no choice but to sign the midfielder, now that Villa are potentially without Youri Tielemans due to injury.
Emery has already lost Boubacar Kamara until the end of the season, but after the latest update, it would appear that the Villans will finish the transfer window with at least one more name in the squad.
Aston Villa ready to welcome back Douglas Luiz
Luiz made 206 appearances for the Villans, making a huge impact on those at Villa Park, and one supporter simply responded, “HE’S COMING HOME”.
The midfielder continues to be welcomed “home” by the loving supporters, who were absolutely crushed when the club were forced into selling him back in the summer of 2024.
With Tielemans and Kamara both possibly sidelined, Amadou Onana is currently holding down the middle of the park, but the Belgian has injury issues of his own, and Emery cannot push him too far.
- @PhilKeenan11: “Welcome home, Dougie. Tielemans filled your boots, now you’ve gotta fill his.”
- @avfc__s: “My sweet Brazilian prince is back.”
- @TheHolteHub: “The boy from Brazil is BACK.”
Unai Emery is likely to already have a plan for Luiz
Luiz has struggled for minutes ever since parting ways with the Villans, so it is difficult to know just how involved the player will be in the second half of the season.
However, Emery got the very best out of the Brazilian during their short time together in the West Midlands, and he is likely to do the same again as Villa aim for the Premier League title.
Speaking back in 2024 [Sky Sports], Emery said: “He is a player who has always had a good instinct to get into the box. He is scoring goals because his instinct is very good. He is feeling comfortable getting into the opposition box when we are in the attacking third.”
After a position change and being allowed more freedom, the player went from 13 goal contributions to 20 in the space of a few months, but he might struggle to fit into the attack.
It may come at just the right time, with John McGinn sidelined, but with Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Emi Buendia indispensable, he will have to fight for his position.
