Aston Villa fans are unanimous in claiming Emiliano Martinez is the best goalkeeper in world football after his display in the 2-1 Europa League quarter-final first-leg win over Lille on Thursday (11 April).
The 31-year-old was key for Unai Emery’s side – who will travel to France next week (18 April) with a one-goal lead in their bid to reach the competition’s semi-finals.
Martinez was recognised by FIFA as the world’s best goalkeeper in 2022 following Argentina’s World Cup win, and earned the tag with his performance at Villa Park against Lille.
As per Sofascore, the ex-Arsenal star made six saves on the night, with all six coming inside the box – preventing 1.09 goals.

He has kept 13 clean sheets in 41 appearances across all competitions this term as Aston Villa chase a spot in next season’s Champions League.
Villa fans have taken to social media to express their love for Martinez, with one claiming the 31-year-old is “the best I’ve seen anywhere”.
