Aston Villa fans destroy Nicolo Zaniolo as ‘unforgivable’ footage emerges v Man City
Aston Villa fans are furious with Nicolo Zaniolo and blame him for allowing Man City star Phil Foden to score directly from a free-kick.
Unai Emery’s side were humbled 4-1 by the title-chasing Citizens at the Etihad on Wednesday night (3 April) with Jhon Duran’s equaliser made irrelevant by a sensational subsequent hattrick from Foden.
While fans were not expecting to beat the Champions League holders with an injury-stricken squad, they were still livid with Zaniolo for being a weak link in Villa’s wall.
In stoppage time of the first half, City had a dangerous free-kick opportunity just outside the box.
Nicolo Zaniolo dubbed a “coward” by Aston Villa fans
Foden’s effort was heading straight for the wall, but Zaniolo stunningly moved his body out of the way which blindsided Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen before the ball arrowed in to give City a 2-1 lead.
The Italian’s form has been mostly unimpressive this season, and his latest outing and high-profile mistake have had Villa fans talking.
They have taken to social media to react to the “coward’s” error, and many are now adamant that they do not want him at the club beyond his loan from Galatasaray.
