Aston Villa fans distraught after Ollie Watkins blow – ‘Season’s over’

Aston Villa fans are devastated after Ollie Watkins was forced off in their Europa Conference League win against Ajax on Thursday night (14 March).

The Villans secured a famous European win against the Dutch giants with a 4-0 victory at Villa Park to book their place in the quarter-finals.

Watkins scored the opener in the 25th minute with a thumping header to put his side on course for the huge win, but he had to be withdrawn just eight minutes later.

The Englishman had sustained a brutal cut to the knee after a challenge by Ajax goalkeeper Diant Ramaj before his goal but was seen limping off soon after he bagged.

Watkins, who was included in Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad, has been a standout for Villa this season having notched 21 goals and 10 assists in all competitions.

Fortunately for Villa fans, manager Unai Emery confirmed that the injury is not as bad as initially thought, meaning he is not expected to be out for an extended period of time.

Regardless, supporters took to social media in the wake of the “devastating” blow, and many suggested a long-term absence for the striker would be a season-defining moment for the Villans.
