Aston Villa fans ‘not impressed’ with Roberto Olabe after new transfer update: ‘Straight to the Championship’
Aston Villa fans have reacted with annoyance and uncertainty to a new update on their pursuit of Gremio winger Alysson.
Unai Emery did not see many additions made to his squad in the summer window as Villa had to avoid PSR sanctions and were nearly forced into numerous big-money sales.
They avoided letting any of their key men leave, and their lack of business has not been an issue this season as they mount an unlikely Premier League title challenge right now.
The Villans’ chiefs are looking to bolster Emery’s ranks in the January window, despite their impressive form, with Football Insider revealing that Jadon Sancho and Harvey Elliott could leave to pave the way for some new attacking arrivals.
Villa have registered their interest in Gremio winger Alysson ahead of the new year, and he now looks set to join the club soon following a new development.
Villa agree deal to sign Alysson from Gremio in January
Alysson has been a part of Gremio’s youth set-up since the age of 12, and he made his first-team debut for the club last July at 18-years-old.
He has since featured 41 times for his boyhood club, mainly off the right-wing, with one goal and two assists in those appearances in his maiden first-team campaign as they finished ninth in Serie A.
After initial links emerged earlier in the week, a new update from Fabrizio Romano states that Villa have agreed a deal to officially sign Alysson from Gremio next month.
The deal to sign the 19-year-old is reportedly set to cost the Villans an initial €10million (£8.7m) plus a possible €2m (£1.7m) in add-ons.
Alysson is due to undergo a medical and sign a contract with Villa by the end of December, but some of their fans are unsure and unhappy about the move.
Villa fans rip into club chiefs for Alysson signing amid PSR uncertainty
Villa’s financial struggles have led supporters to be skeptical around their reasons for signing Alysson considering his lack of first-team experience and attacking output in a lesser league in his short career so far.
Taking to X, one fan wrote: “I pray that Alysson comes in [January] and proves me wrong but I am not sure about this one. Knowing us [we’ll probably] loan him back to them and then sell him to someone else in the summer.”
Another said: “But will he actually play? Refuse to get excited by any [incomings] at the moment” while one added: “Not impressed off his highlight videos, time will tell.”
One supporter compared him to a struggling Villa player, saying: “Looks like another Guessand, no pace, offers nothing going forward but very good at defending. Can’t see the point in this unless it’s a PSR flip or Emery wants to convert him into a RWB.”
