Aston Villa fans rage as ‘shocking’ footage analysed from new angle
Aston Villa fans have raged as “shocking” footage has emerged from their defeat against Brighton on Sunday (5 May).
Ezri Konsa was adjudged to have brought down Seagulls forward Simon Adingra inside the box with just three minutes left on the clock at the Amex.
There were protests from the Villa players after there appeared to be minimal contact made by the England international, but VAR backed up the decision to award a penalty.
Robin Olsen saved the resulting spot-kick from Joao Pedro, but the Brazilian headed home the rebound to secure a 1-0 victory for Brighton.
Although it wasn’t a great performance from the Villans, Unai Emery criticised the decision to give the penalty after Morgan Rogers saw a similar shout waved away in the first half.
The result means the Spaniard’s side aren’t yet assured a place in the Champions League next season, but they are still seven points above fifth-placed Tottenham.
