Aston Villa fans rage at official after ‘absolutely unhinged’ display in Lille
Aston Villa fans have ripped into referee Ivan Kruzliak for his controversial display despite their penalty shoot-out victory against Lille in the Europa Conference League on Thursday (18 April).
The Midlands giants won 4-3 in a dramatic penalty shoot-out after Matty Cash struck late to peg the French side back 3-3 on aggregate.
But it was the Slovakian referee’s performance which drew the ire of Villa fans despite a frustrating performance from Unai Emery’s side on the whole.
Kruzliak dished out ten yellow cards across 120 minutes, with six of those cautions going to Villa players.
Shot-stopper Emiliano Martinez was given an additional yellow during the shoot-out for antagonising the Lille fans.
Emery’s side advance to play Olympiakos in the Europa Conference League semi-final next month.
Aston Villa fans can’t believe ‘absolutely unhinged’ referee display vs Lille
Nevertheless, fans have taken to social media to slam the referee’s “absolutely unhinged” display – with one even suggesting Villa and Lille should launch a joint complaint.
