Aston Villa fans have reacted on Twitter after the club set up a bid to hijack Wolves’ bid to sign Bournemouth forward Benik Afobe.
Football Insider can exclusively reveal that the Villains are set to swoop in and disrupt their local rivals’ attempts to re-sign Afobe, 24, ahead of the transfer deadline on Wednesday night.
Wolves were hopeful of wrapping up a deal that sees Afobe move back to Molineux, on a loan deal which has the option to buy, two years after he exited the club to sign for Bournemouth for £10million.
Steve Bruce’s Villa have now entered the race to sign the ex-Arsenal striker, which could open up a huge West Midlands transfer tussle as Sky Sports has reported that Premier League side West Brom are also interested in him.
Afobe has had a tough season for Bournemouth. He has started just five times in the Premier League and there have been reports of him having a bust-up with manager Eddie Howe.
Now though, it seems that he is likely to move back to the West Midlands before 11pm on Wednesday.
Villa fans have been having their say on the clubs’ bid to hijack Wolves’ efforts to sign Afobe, with one aiming a dig at Molineux by claiming they are the “new Barcelona”.
