Aston Villa fans react on Twitter to speculation Champions League ace is due for medical
By Amir Mir
Basel midfielder Birkir Bjarnason has reportedly agreed to join Aston Villa – and fans on Twitter were hoping he can prove to be a good signing.
The Birmingham Mail claim that the Icelandic international is set to undergo a medical on Wednesday as Villa also close in on Barnsley duo Conor Hourihane and James Bree.
The 29-year-old ace is a versatile midfielder, who has played 20 games this season for Basel, including playing on five occasions in the Champions League.
Fans on Twitter were pretty pleased that manager Steve Bruce was sorting out the club’s midfield as it has been a problematic area for many seasons.
If Bjarnason was to sign then he would compete with a midfield place alongside the likes of Jack Grealish, Henri Lansbury, Mile Jedinak, Gary Gardner, Aaron Tshibola, Ashley Westwood and possibly winger Albert Adomah.

One supporter felt that Villa will be signing a great player because he has goals and creativity in his locker.
Bjarnason, who played against England at Euro 2016, has scored four goals and supplied two assists for his current team this season.
However, there was one fan who was a little critical of the possible signing by stating that the transfer fee to sign the experienced campaigner could be a little high.
Overall, the Villa Park faithful were pleased that the Midlands club is looking to add a much-needed freshness to the team.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Well we all knew midfield was a massive problem so hopefully once all the signings are completed Brucey would have sorted it

I'm a little dubious over this Bjarnason transfer. Seems quite old, and playing at a highish level in Europe. Not gonna be cheap #AVFC
