Liverpool are in talks to sign Aston Villa fan favourite Jordan Amavi – and fans on Twitter are hoping the club don’t sell one of their best players.

Khaled Karouri, a correspondent for French publication Foot Mercato, has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Premier League giants have made a move for Amavi.

Foot Mercato, as cited by Get French Football News, claim Liverpool are in “ongoing contact” with the entourage of Amavi.

It is said that Marseille have made the Frenchman, 22, their number one priority in January but the player is only interested in a move to the Premier League.

Understandably, supporters were hoping that the Championship club don’t sell the left-back when the transfer window opens next month.

One fan stated that it will show whether or not Villa are still are a selling club, having sold a number of their big stars in recent years, most notably Christian Benteke to Liverpool during the summer of 2015.

Another supporter urged owner Tony Xia to show that they are not a selling club by keeping hold of the highly-rated defender next month.

But one Villa fan felt that if they do sell Amavi, then they would be stupid not to accept at least £25 million for his services.

Overall the Villa Park faithful were hoping that Amavi stays at the club and helps them earn promotion back to the top-flight this season.

Here is a selection of their message on Twitter:

Amavi has become a firm fan favourite since joining the Midlands side during the summer of 2015 when he signed from Ligue 1 outfit Nice for a fee of £9 million.

He suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in November last year during Villa’s humiliating relegation.

Despite the wretched performances from his teammates, Amavi was one of a few who left unscathed from fan criticism.

This season he has played 16 Championship games, providing one assist and he is beginning to show the form that won him plaudits last term.

In other Aston Villa transfer news, these three players have been the best winter transfers for the club.
