Aston Villa fans react on Twitter to Bruce lining up controversial midfielder
By Amir Mir
Aston Villa want to re-sign Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph on loan for the rest of the season – and fans on Twitter have stated that they would not welcome him back.
The Telegraph claimed that Villa were hoping to sign their former player, along with other targets Tom Cleverley, Henri Lansbury and Matty James.
But it was the news regarding Delph that caught the eye of many supporters given his controversial history with the Midlands club.
Delph left the club during the summer of 2015 just days after rejecting an offer from City and pledging his loyalty to Villa.
His subsequent U-turn and move to the Etihad Stadium did not go down well with the Villa faithful who booed him upon his return to Villa Park four months later.

Supporters on Twitter stated that they would not welcome Delph back to the club because of the manner in which he left.
One fan stated that he treated the club and its supporters with disrespect, therefore, he should not be allowed to return.
While another supporter joked that there is more chance in former boss Alex McCleish returning to the Villa Park dugout than there is in Delph returning.
Overall, fans were pretty unanimous in stating that the City player should remain in Manchester as he is not welcome back in the Midlands.

I'd take Fabian Delph back in a heartbeat. He's just what we need in the middle of the park. Would be a sign of the man if he returned #AVFC

Appreciate it's been denied but I would absolutely not welcome Delph back. Treated the club and fans with such disrespect #avfc

There's no way that #Delph is coming back to #AVFC.
I wouldn't want him anyway, just leave him to rot in city's reserves ???? pic.twitter.com/QmoGN8r5Xq— Grayham Clements (@Mr_Clements) January 6, 2017
Why would we want Delph back? #AVFC

Delph coming back would be no different to Gabby coming back in my eyes. I support the badge and not the name on the back of the shirt #avfc

Steve Bruce – "If you're having midfield problems I feel bad for you son, I got 99 targets but Fabian Delph ain't one" #AVFC

I know there's no way Delph would come bk so I'm not concerned I just can't believe how people have quickly forgotten the way he left #avfc

There's more chance of McLeish getting his Villa job back than Delph coming back. Get a grip people ???? #AVFC
