Aston Villa fans react on Twitter with delight to Jonathan Kodjia news

By Amir Mir

Jonathan Kodjia will be making an early return to Aston Villa after Ivory Coast were eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations – and fans on Twitter have expressed their delight.

The Elephants, who are the reigning champions, made an early exit after being beaten 1-0 by Morocco on Tuesday.

Kodjia’s side had drawn their previous two encounters and needed a win to progress through to the next stage.

However, despite numerous efforts on goal, it was Rachid Alioui’s long-range effort that sealed all three points for Morocco.

Ivory Coast manager, Michel Dussuyer, opted to drop Kodjia to the bench for this fixture with the Villa attacker coming on in the final 15 minutes replacing Crystal Palace winger Wilfred Zaha.

Now, Kodjia will be returning home to Villa Park where he will be tasked to help his side clinch their first win in five matches.

Since his absence, Steve Bruce’s side have lost three out of their last four games, with the other finishing stalemate at the weekend.

Additionally, during those games, the promotion chasers have only scored two goals as they have struggled without their star man.

Understandably, the Villa Park faithful on Twitter were delighted to hear that Kodjia’s home country had been knocked out early because it meant him returning to the club.

Kodjia will more than likely be part of the squad that takes on Brentford at Griffin Park next Tuesday night.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Prior to Kodjia heading out on international duty, he scored a late penalty for Bruce’s side as they secured a 1-1 draw with Leeds in December.

He has scored nine goals this season and during his absence, Bruce has utilised Ross McCormack and Gabby Agbonlahor as forwards.

In other Aston Villa transfer news, the club is to seal three transfer which includes this Champions League ace.
