Aston Villa fans on Twitter believe that Harry McKirdy’s new contract extension was well deserved after the news was confirmed on Monday.

The Championship club confirmed on their official Twitter account that McKirdy, 20, had extended his deal at Villa Park until the summer of 2019 after impressing in the Under-23 side.

McKirdy is yet to earn an appearance in the Villains’ senior side but has been an established member of their Under-23 side in recent seasons, especially in Premier League 2.

The young attacker can play as a striker or in the No 10 role and spent the first half of the 2016/17 campaign on loan with League Two side Stevenage.

He made 13 appearances across all competitions with the fourth-tier club, scoring his first two professional goals in the process with his debut league goal coming in a 2-1 win against Mansfield.

Now, Villa fans on social media are pleased to see that the striker has had his deal extended.

One supporter joked that he hopes the striker is “a wizard”, perhaps in reference to Harry Potter.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

McKirdy could now be looking to continue his progression in the Villa development side or have another loan spell away at the club in the Football League’s lower tiers.
