‘Get rid’, ‘Terminate his contract’ – Aston Villa fans react to Friday announcement

By Abigail Withey

Aston Villa fans have revealed that they’re not bothered by the club’s announcement which confirmed that Gabby Agbonlahor wouldn’t be available to play against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The 30-year-old has featured in just four of Villa’s Championship fixtures this season and managed to secure a goal during the club’s 1-1 draw against Hull City on the opening weekend of the competition in August.

The Englishman has suffered from a back problem, and the club announced on their official Twitter account on Friday that he would miss Saturday’s Nottingham Forest fixture and would “train all weekend” ahead of next week’s clash against Burton Albion.

Fans seem less than disappointed that the attacker will be sidelined this weekend with some supporters even suggesting that the club should “terminate his contract” and pay him off to leave the Midlands club.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Agbonlahor has been in the first-team for over a decade after making his senior debut in 2005 but that could all come to an end next year as his contract is due to expire in 2018.

The centre-forward joins fellow absentees Mile Jedinak and former Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury who are out of this weekend’s game.

Villa host Nottingham Forest on Saturday and will hope to recover from their disappointing 2-0 defeat in the third round of the League Cup to Middlesbrough on Tuesday and replicate their efforts from their previous Championship clash against Barnsley.

In other Aston Villa news, the club has had another double injury blow confirmed for this weekend’s encounter.
