Aston Villa fans react on Twitter as Bjarnason starts against Rotherham
By Matt Farr
Birkir Bjarnason has been recalled to the Aston Villa starting XI to face Rotherham on Saturday – but fans on Twitter had mixed feelings.
The 28-year-old was named as one of two changes to Steve Bruce’s side for their Championship clash, replacing the injured Andre Green on the left-wing for Aston Villa.
A return for Conor Hourihane in place of Gary Gardner was the second change, as Aston Villa confirmed their line-up on their official Twitter account ahead of kick-off.

However, the decision to recall Bjarnason to the starting line-up was met with mixed reviews by the Aston Villa fans, who believe that Jack Grealish and Jordan Amavi would both have been better options in the wide position.
On the other hand, some supporters were happy to see the Iceland international finally given an opportunity to shine in his more familiar role.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Bjarnason over Grealish is sensible, at least to start with. We need to work hard at a team scrapping for everything, then win it. #avfc

I mean if there was ever a game to start Grealish this is probably one of them. Seems he's in Bruce's bad books. #avfc

Like that lineup, Bjarnasson in his favoured position hopefully shows us he's a player, bench is so weak though #avfc

Bjarnason has made seven appearances for Aston Villa since arriving from FC Basel in January, but has only appeared in his favoured wide role on two occasions.
Bruce has shown a preference towards Bjarnason as a central midfielder, which despite being adept in the role, it is not his most effective.
However, in the absence of Green, Bruce has chosen to shuffle his pack and make the positional change.
Aston Villa can make it three wins in a row in the Championship at Rotherham, and a victory could also see them jump up the table into 13th.
In other Aston Villa news, Green has delivered a message of support to the Villa players ahead of the clash.
