Aston Villa fans react on Twitter to Johnson speculation
By Will Butcher
Aston Villa’s Twitter fans would be happy with the appointment of Lee Johnson if current boss Roberto Di Matteo is axed in the next 48 hours.
The Sun claim that the Italian is reportedly set to be the first victim of owner Tony Xia’s Aston Villa reign, after just one win in 12 league and cup encounters.
With the former Premier League outfit sitting in 19th place and just two points above the Championship drop zone, Di Matteo is likely to be axed after just 122 days in charge.
Names are already beginning to circulate about the former Champions League winning manager’s successor, with Bristol City boss Johnson being one of the media’s front runners.
Fans have reacted in positive fashion at the news, with many believing Johnson to be a better tactician than Di Matteo.
Here are a selection of Villa fans’ tweets:
I rave about Lee Johnson too much but loves the game, real motivator. Be surprised if him & Rowett don't manage PL clubs.

you could be right, but I still think Villa would be a HUGE pull for Lee Johnson and an opportunity he couldn't pass up

Johnson, who is the son of Cheltenham Town boss Gary Johnson, has guided his club to fifth in the table, with 20 points from their opening 11 games.
Along with the Robins boss, free agent Steve Bruce is also a name being touted around as Di Matteo’s potential successor, after he resigned from his position at Hull City.
In other Aston Villa news, fans have reacted to another Bruce’s potential arrival.
