Jonathan Kodjia was sent off for Aston Villa during their 3-1 defeat to Fulham on Monday – and fans on Twitter have delivered mixed verdicts.

The 27-year-old striker was dismissed for an altercation with Ryan Fredericks, during which the Aston Villa star was judged to have kicked out at the Fulham defender by referee David Coote.

Kodjia earned himself an early bath for his role in the incident, although Fredericks was left unpunished despite appearing to aim his own kick at the Ivory Coast international.

However, the dismissal means Kodjia will sit out the remaining three games of the season through suspension, leaving Aston Villa without their top goalscorer against Birmingham, Blackburn and Brighton.

But fans delivered mixed responses to the pending absence of their star man, urging the club’s remaining attacking stars to step up.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has since hinted that youngster Rushian Hepburn-Murphy could earn himself a key role in the first team squad in Kodjia’s absence.

Kodjia has scored 19 goals for the club this season, and Villa will need someone to pick up where he left off if they are to finish the season on a high.

But they also have Scott Hogan available after his return from injury, with the 25-year-old winter signing having scored just once since his arrival at Villa Park from Brentford.
