Aston Villa fans react on Twitter at speculation Bruce is close to striker deal

By Will Butcher

Aston Villa fans reacted with surprise on Twitter at reports Rudy Gestede is set to join Middlesbrough for £6.5million during the January window.

The Guardian’s deputy news editor Ed Aarons claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Benin international was close to sealing a move to Aitor Karanka’s Premier League new boys.

Gestede, 27, is set to be the first to leave Villa Park in January as Steve Bruce looks to conduct a mid-season reshuffle in order to launch an assault on the Championship playoffs.

With Villa possessing an abundance of strikers, Bruce is expected to sell one of his forwards and it seems the former Blackburn forward will be the one to leave Villa Park.

Fans have reacted on Twitter in shock as they cannot believe that Bruce is set to receive a figure of £6.5million for the target man, with many believing he is not worth such a fee.

Since his £6million move to the Midlands giants in the summer of 2015, Gestede has scored just 10 goals in 54 league and cup appearances.

Despite scoring four of those goals this season, Gestede is now set to be offloaded with the money used to invest in other areas of the squad.

In other Aston Villa transfer news, this Serie A striker has made an emphatic decision over his future.
