Aston Villa have completed brilliant ‘bargain’ signing – ‘he’ll become a fan favourite’

Harvey Elliott has been tipped to become a fan favourite at Aston Villa after joining the club on deadline day.

Elliott completed a move from Liverpool following a summer of speculation, on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy included.

Aston Villa also managed to add Jadon Sancho to their ranks on the final day of the window, as Unai Emery saw a big improvement to his side’s attacking depth.

In recent months, Elliott has struggled for game time under Arne Slot, and after the signing of Florian Wirtz, it was clear the Englishman needed a move away for the good of his career.

Aston Villa’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that his old side have agreed a great deal for the former Fulham man.

Aston Villa have secured Harvey Elliott for a great price

This article contains exclusive comment from Keith Wyness, former Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen CEO.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Aston Villa have secured the signing of Elliott for a very good price.

The Midlands giants will be obliged to pay £35million to make the loan deal permanent at the end of the season, if the England Under-21 international reaches a certain number of appearances.

Wyness added that Elliott is a quality player and will likely become a fan favourite at Villa.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think it’s a great price for him. He obviously doesn’t fit into the Liverpool Galacticos at the moment, but I think he is a quality player.

“He’s a very feisty, good player. I rate him highly, and I think he’ll do very well at Villa. He wants to prove that he’s as good as the Galacticos at Liverpool, and I think he will.

“Villa fans will take to him, and I think they’ve got him for a very good price. To me, he’s one of the bargains of the window, and I’ve got a lot of time for him.

“Villa have done very well with that deal, and again, that’s another Monchi spot and great negotiation. Good deal for Villa.”

Aston Villa to consider permanent move for Man United attacker

Meanwhile, Aston Villa will consider making Sancho’s loan move from Man United permanent if he hits the ground running after the international break, sources have told Football Insider.

Villa’s difficult financial situation meant the winger’s move was a straight loan with no option to buy, but considerations have been made about his long-term future.

The Midlands giants are believed to be covering around 80% of the 25-year-old’s significant wage packet, easing the considerable financial burden on Amorim’s side.

Should he prove to be a success in Emery‘s squad before the January transfer window, efforts could be made to make his stay at Villa Park permanent.
