Aston Villa have pulled off ‘one of greatest signings of all time’ – Wyness
Aston Villa’s former chief Keith Wyness has suggested Monchi could “build a dynasty” after their success this term.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the legendary transfer guru was “one of the great signings of all time” for Villa.
Monchi arrived at Villa in June 2023, months after the appointment of Unai Emery – who he had previously worked with at Sevilla.
The transfer expert, 55, helped unearth talent like Sergio Ramos, Julio Baptista and Ivan Rakitic in Spain and is now using his experience with Aston Villa.
Emery’s side sit fourth in the Premier League and are set to qualify for the Champions League in Monchi’s first season in England.
Monchi ‘one of the great signings of all time’ for Aston Villa, says Wyness
Wyness claimed Villa can “build a dynasty” over the “next four to five years”.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Emery has done brilliantly, but let’s not forget Monchi – the sporting director.
“I think that was one of the greatest signings of all time.
“He’s a huge talent, probably the best in the world at what he does.
“I’ve analysed a lot of his work at Sevilla, and he’s just great.
“With the owners in place, with the manager in place and with Monchi in place – they could go on and build a dynasty.
“They’re looking at the next four to five years, there’s no doubt.

“They have a real chance, and they feel that they’ve got the right management team in place.
“Let’s hope Villa do go on and challenge. That would make most people happy.”
