Aston Villa have pulled off ‘signing of the summer’ after what I’ve seen from Ings – pundit

Frank McAvennie has been blown away by Danny Ings’ start to life at Aston Villa.

The former Villains striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the striker could prove to be the signing of the summer.

Ings has scored twice in two outings for his new side, including an overhead kick against Newcastle on Saturday,

He joined the Villains from Southampton as he entered the final year of his contract.

Ings has had no choice but to lead the Villa line this season as Ollie Watkins remains sidelined.

McAvennie has admitted he wanted Ings to join his other former club West Ham and claimed the move could be the signing of the summer.

“Oh my God, I love him, he’s just so good,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I wanted him in the other claret and blue down at West Ham, I think he would be brilliant there.

“Imagine him and Antonio, that would have been fun. He guarantees you goals, doesn’t he?

“That goal he scored against Newcastle, my god, that was outstanding.

“And that’s what he gives you, Villa knew they were getting that when they signed him.

“If he’s not at West Ham I’m glad he’s at Villa. £20million for him? What a deal, could be the signing of the summer.

Villa face Brentford at home this weekend where Ings will look to continue his red-hot form.

He played no part as the villains breezed past Barrow in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.
