Kieran Maguire makes ‘high six figure’ Aston Villa claim as new deal agreed

Aston Villa are unlikely to pocket a huge windfall from their latest sponsorship agreement with Monster Energy.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Villa announced the new deal on 18 August.

Villa’s chief commercial officer Nicola Ibbetson revealed she was “delighted” with the two-year arrangement.

The energy drinks brand, which is sold in 140 countries across the globe, is a prominent name in sports advertising.

Villa made a combined total of £23.8million from sponsorship and commercial streams in the last financial year.

And Maguire claims that the new deal with Monster Energy will top up that total by only a small amount.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “For a sponsor that isn’t a front-of-shirt or sleeve, you aren’t going to get huge sums.

“I think it’s more likely to be in the high six figures than seven. If they get £500,000 from it, I think that would be quite good for a club of Villa’s stature.

“They aren’t giving up much in return so the sum itself isn’t going to move the dial significantly.

“They are effectively paying to have the logo on the perspex screen that you see managers and players interviewed in front of post-match.
