
Aston Villa in £60m crisis – sources
Aston Villa must raise £60million in player sales this summer after their latest PSR proposal was rejected by Premier League rivals, sources have told Football Insider.
Current regulations state that clubs cannot exceed losses of £105million over a rolling three-year period.
Villa proposed that the allowable loss limit should be increased to £135million for the 2024-25 season, but top-flight clubs voted against the proposal during a vote this week.
Top-flight clubs voted against Villa’s proposal during a vote this week with the Premier League instead set to implement a new league-wide system.
The Premier League will use the 2024-25 season as a trial for the new squad cost control measures that will cap spending at 85 percent of a club’s overall revenue.

Villa are expected to be close to the PSR limit for next season after announcing losses of £119million in their latest 2022-23 accounts.
Sources have told Football Insider that Villa are now under pressure to raise around £60million in player sales over the summer in order to comply with the financial regulations.
If Villa are unable to sell players and balance their books, they will be at risk of a significant points deduction.

Both Everton and Nottingham Forest were deducted points last season after exceeding the allowable losses.
