Aston Villa’s Lucas Digne responds to Ben Pavard’s ‘darkest nights’ Inter post

Aston Villa star Lucas Digne has responded to Ben Pavard’s emotional message after Inter’s comprehensive Champions League final defeat to PSG.

The Serie A giants did admirably well to reach the final in Munich, but were hammered 5-0 by Luis Enrique’s men on Saturday, 31 May.

PSG’s clinical attack outclassed the Inter defence, while Desire Doue was the star of the show as he scored two goals and created an assist.

Enrique’s freshly crowned Champions League winners will now face Europa League champions Tottenham in August’s UEFA Super Cup clash.

Aston Villa star Digne responds as Pavard shares ‘difficult’ Champions League message

Pavard was named in Simone Inzaghi’s defence for the Champions League final, but failed to keep the likes of Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia at bay.

The France international took to Instagram [1 June] to share his thoughts, as he wrote: “A difficult evening, a tough defeat to accept and digest, a heavy result in the heart, against a very strong opponent. It hurts so bad.

“This wasn’t the dream, this wasn’t the ending we wanted to live.

“But even on the darkest nights, the love for these colours shines brighter than ever inside us. Heartfelt thanks to all participants, to those who sang with passion, to those who believed in us until the end.

“We will rise, together, stronger and more united than before. Because Inter never gives up. Come on Inter, all the way.”

Fellow French defender Digne showed his support for Pavard, commenting on the post with three red heart emojis.

Emi Martinez rejects transfer offer

While Digne has shown his sympathy towards international teammate Pavard, Aston Villa are in for a busy summer transfer window despite failing to qualify for the Champions League.

Unai Emery wants Marco Asensio to return to the West Midlands on a permanent deal, but the Premier League club will also have to oversee high-profile outgoings this summer.

However, Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Emi Martinez has rejected a transfer offer from Saudi Arabia, having enjoyed yet another strong season between the sticks for Emery’s side.

The goalkeeper proved himself as one of the best in the world when he won the World Cup with Argentina in 2022, while he has also shone for the men in claret and blue.

But while the 32-year-old has turned down interest from the Saudi Pro League, Football Insider have exclusively reported that Manchester United could sign Martinez.

Meanwhile, Villa News have revealed that the West Midlands club could go all out to seal a return for England international Jack Grealish.
