By Tom Blackburn

Aston Villa have made contact with Ligue 1 side SCO Angers about signing Cheikh Ndoye, according to a report.

Ndoye is a powerful central midfielder and has been at Angers since last summer when he joined on a free transfer from Ligue 2 side US Creteil-Lusitanos.

French football website Foot 365 claim that Championship club Villa have made an approach for the 30-year-old as they eye a replacement for Idrissa Gueye.

The report also says Aston Villa are in the market for a new midfielder as they prepare to lose Ashley Westwood and Jordan Vertout.

Ndoye has been a critical figure for Angers since joining last summer, and last season played 34 times scoring 10 times.

Villa picked up their first win of the Champions season with a 3-0 win against Rotherham on Saturday, and have since been linked with a number of signings.

The Telegraph Midlands reporter John Percy claimed on Sunday that Villa were set to complete the signing of Mile Jedinak from Crystal Palace within 48 hours.

Ownere Tony Xia has revealed Villa will announce a new signing after their game against Huddersfield Town on Tuesday evening.

Percy also reported that the Championship club are looking to sign Chelsea striker Partick Bamford on loan, as Roberto Di Matteo moulds his squad for a promotion challenge.

Both Jedinak and Bamford would make a drop from the Premier League into the Championship if they were to put pen to paper.

Italian newspaper Tutto Sport have claimed that Villa have agreed terms for Bologna midfielder Amadou Diawara, 19 who is also attracting interest from Napoli and Roma.
