Aston Villa star Matty Cash reacts to Marco Asensio’s message

Aston Villa defender Matty Cash has reacted to a message shared by former teammate and PSG attacker Marco Asensio.

Asensio enjoyed a successful loan spell with Unai Emery’s men last season, scoring eight goals in 21 appearances.

The Spain international helped Aston Villa reach the FA Cup semi-finals, and the Champions League quarter-finals.

However, the West Midlands club failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League, which could damage their chances of signing Asensio permanently.

Cash made 27 Premier League appearances for Aston Villa last season, notching one goal and one assist in the process.

Meanwhile, taking to Instagram [17 June], Asensio shared photos of himself on holiday with the caption: “One of my passions.”

The PSG attacking midfielder’s message attracted a like from Cash, who scored for Poland against Moldova earlier this month.

Asensio could replace Morgan Rogers at Villa

It remains to be seen whether Villa can sign Asensio from PSG permanently while also retaining their current stars.

But the Spain international seemingly has no future in Paris, as he is on holiday while his teammates are competing in this summer’s Club World Cup.

Asensio seemingly has no chance of receiving game time in Luis Enrique’s side over the likes of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue, or Senny Mayulu.

Meanwhile, former Villa scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider that Arsenal want to sign Morgan Rogers this summer, after the England international notched an impressive return of 14 goals and 13 assists across all competitions last season.

The West Midlands side should be reluctant to part company with the talented 22-year-old ahead of next season, but could sell him to balance the books.

If Villa sell Rogers, handing the West Midlands side vital funds, Asensio could prove to be a capable replacement, having impressed during his loan spell with Emery’s men last season.

Elsewhere, Emery’s side have been tipped to sell Emi Buendia to Leeds United in a Villa News exclusive.
