‘Aston Villa may now have to sell Morgan Rogers’ – Chelsea get biggest boost yet

Morgan Rogers has been heavily linked with an Aston Villa exit this summer and a number of top teams are interested in acquiring his services.

It was rumoured that Villa were going to be forced to sell Rogers in order to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

However, last month the Midlands giants executed a last-minute sale of their women’s side, which allowed them to skirt around the financial regulations.

Football Insider has revealed that Unai Emery is desperate to keep hold of Rogers beyond the end of the transfer window.

Despite this, Aston Villa’s former chief Keith Wyness– who served as CEO at Villa Park between 2016 and 2018 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that the England international could end up joining Chelsea, as the Blues will be able to offer the big numbers required to make a deal happen.

Rogers is attracted to Chelsea move

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that it is the right time for Rogers to move away from Villa.

The 22-year-old impressed in the Premier League last season, scoring eight goals and picking up 11 assists for Emery’s side.

Wyness added that Rogers may see a future beyond Villa, and is attracted to the prospect of a deal away from the club.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I’ve identified Morgan Rogers as one of those assets that Villa don’t want to sell, but may have to due to PSR.

“They’ve done the women’s football move, which does lessen some of the pressure on them. I still think that they’re going to have to sell a top-quality player to be able to get the resources that Unai Emery wants to spend and reshape his squad for Europe.

“At his age, I think it’s the right time for Rogers to move on. He may see something beyond Villa and I think he’s going to be attracted to another deal.

“I do think that Rogers could end up being one who could go to Chelsea. Chelsea are the ones that could make it happen.

“Like Grealish going from Villa, it’s going to have to be a really big number, but I think that’s what we’re going to see. Chelsea will be able to offer Villa the big number they would require in order to make that tough decision to let him leave.”

Aston Villa accelerate talks for Chelsea striker

Meanwhile, Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Aston Villa are accelerating their efforts to sign Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson.

Preliminary talks are already underway after Emery’s side made contact with the West London club to ascertain what it would take to land the 24-year-old.

Conversations have also been held with the striker’s representatives about his willingness to move after what has been a turbulent year at Stamford Bridge.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 30 June that Emery is pushing for Villa to sign Jackson as he looks to overhaul his front line this summer.
